New Work - Party Hats

Party Hats is a theme that I have explored over the past year. I find it interesting that we wear paper hats to commemorate festive events such as Christmas, New Year’s or birthdays. When I was a kid, we often wore party hats at birthday parties. And, each year, on Christmas Eve, I set the table with Christmas crackers. With the help of our neighbour we pull them until they snap. Out pops a prize, a joke, a riddle and a paper party hat. We all put on our party hats and take some photos. It never gets old.

I love how the paintings feel illuminated (hard to capture that in a photo). I also love the looseness of the figures - something that I am working towards in my work.
